(Google Map: Old Siam Plaza, On Lok Yun is located just beside it)
Located at the corners of Bangkok's Chinatown, also known as Yaowarat in Thai.
On Lok Yun is a traditional breakfast shop which was around since the 1930s.
As we had done some research before heading to this place, we were aware that some addresses given by different websites are wrong and it will probably lead us to an unknown street in Chinatown. Hence we found a reliable site with a cute map, note down whichever significant bigger buildings that is located nearby. And we found it after 15 minutes of walking.
Morning got us some difficulty for hailing a cab to Chinatown. Most of the taxi drivers were like, "Huh? Chinatown? Now no open. At night at night. Now nothing."
And they charged us 500baht at first. After asking around for the next 2-3 cabs, finally one offered a 200baht to us and here we board the taxi!
Immersing ourselves in the old street culture of the lively Chinatown in the morning. We actually enjoy getting lost at foreign places.
We were being dropped off at the central of Chinatown, specifically
outside Grand China Hotel. With our GPS, we googled "Old Siam Plaza" (as shown in the above photo) to
locate instead of keying in "On Lok Yun" as the google map provides the
wrong address. Old Siam Plaza is located just beside our destination.
We were famished by the time we get there. We got too excited and ordered nearly every single dishes out of their menu.
Here is the list of items we ordered:
1) Butter and sugar toast
2) Condensed milk toast
3) American-Thai styled breakfast set
4) Toast with cream custard kaya dip
5) French toast
6) Two soft boiled eggs
7) Two cups of cha yen
Total up to a 270baht.
Hot Cha Yen over Cold Cha Yen anytime!
Thai-American Styled Breakfast, which was pretty mediocre to the hungry us. This was the most costly item out of the menu as well. My fav was the chinese sausage.
Here comes our FAV out of all dishes!!!!
CONDENSED MILK TOAST.
It was slightly cripsy on the outside and so soft in the inside! I could have 10 plates of this!!
Yummy french toast which tasted like fried omelette! SO GOOD.
The star dish - White soft bread with Kaya (or Coconut Jam) Dip.
We love the kaya! However I just don't get the mixture of kaya with the evaporated milk.. Doesn't taste too fantastic to me. Just the Kaya itself is shiok enough!
They are selling their Kaya for you to bring home at 40 baht, which can only last up to 3 days. Which we also figured out we couldn't get it home since we still have 2 and half days here in BKK. Now it became one of my regrets oh well..
Will I come back again?
"HELL YES"
Till the next time ❣
